    Suprisingly Eye Opening

I agree with the other reviewers that the writing style was diffrent. But I enjoyed it, for once here is a book where you truely feel like you know the main charector (billy) just because the writing reflects a young gay minds work. If the book was supposed to be from like a older man maybe a diffrent style would be better. But not in this case. The ending slightly got to me, and it doesn't resolve the obvious conflicts, but it does resolve the underlying one, Billy's coming to terms with himself.

    Great story

The boys on the rock is a great story background, and has a lot of depth to it. it took about three chapters to actually get into the book. it was hard for me to get past the author's writing style. once you get past that, you get used to his choice of wording and actually begin to enjoy the book. definate read

    I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN

I STARTED READING THIS BOOK AND I COULD SO RELATE. HE WAS A YOUNG HANDSOME MAN COMING OUT. I THINK THAT THE NOVEL WAS SHORT. IN THE END IT DOESN'T SAY WHAT HIS PARENTS THOUGHT AND ALSO THE MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF EVAN. PART TWO RECCOMENDED BY ME. 4 STARS THOUGH DEFINITELY

A Gay Boy Becomes a Proud Gay Boy

I'd really like to give this book three and an half stars instead of four, but I can't split a star. Yes, the writing is excellent, the plotting keeps the reader's interest, and the characters are well-drawn. On top of that, you have a boy who starts the novel self-conscious and somewhat afraid of being gay, but after he tastes love he matures into a more self-confidant, proud, even defiant young man. My problem with Fox's novel is the sappy ending. I have the strong impression Fox got tired of writing this story and just decided to quit after Chapter 20. Nothing in Chapter 21 grows out of the story. It's merely an unsatisfactory conclusion in which Billy dumps Al (a boy he supposedly loves) just when Al needs him the most, Evan dies from a "deus ex machina" stabbing, and Billy thinks he might go to Manhattan to live! We never learn how Billy's parents deal with their son coming out, and Billy's beautiful aunt -- a character with so much potential for the novel -- drifts through the latter half of the novel without becoming a real influence on Al and Billy's psychological development. Yeah, three and a half stars at most.
