New Take on an Old Story

Very satisying read about a woman who, jilted out of a sterile marriage, gropes her way into a 'new' life by reconnecting with her past and going with her instincts. Good (often wryly humorous) dialog enhanced by freshly descriptive narative -- I alternately wanted to hug and slap the likable heroine as she vacillates between denying the present and embracing the future. Clever use of flashbacks and foreshadowing add intrigue.

    Bread Alone takes the Cake

Yummy novel about a 31 year old woman finding her true self after a marriage completley designed and controlled by her husband. She goes to Seattle, gets a job as a bread baker, while contemplating her life. She must relearn what she really wants for herself, what she really likes...from her clothing and interior design to her friends. It's a growth process most women can identify with. Romantic in an earthy and intelligent style. Very good writing, well crafted sentences, perfectly chosen words with hilliarious, witty dialogue and personal insights that fulfill your soul and intellect, as well as your emotions. Rich enough to last a while. I really fell into the life of this character as if she were a friend.

This is one story you 'll wish would never end...

Judi Hendricks writes with such sharp wit and entertaining style, this otherwise sad tale of a woman starting over is so downright funny, I found myself laughing out loud... and often! I felt the character was a close friend...the kind you can shake whenever they take leave of their senses, and love them just the same. This novel is both endearing and enduring...it was a great slow read...I enjoyed savoring each and every witty paragraph and recipe. This is just about best book I've read in a very long time.
