Pinborough's third effort from Leisure Books starts out interestingly enough--small-town women become pregnant, delivering spider-like fetuses, the mothers displaying powerful mind control techniques over their menfolk. But what had the potential for a sinister, microcosmic-like tale reminiscent of the movie, The Village of the Damned, quickly devolves into a poorly-fleshed out macrocosmic rendition of a nationwide, if not worldwide, tale of 'alien' occupation in which little, if any, hope remains for mankind at the novel's conclusion. I wanted to know more about the changes the women suffered through and, in particular, what happened to the main character's girlfriend, more of a small-scale venture into horror, not a large-scale exercise in futility. Was this review helpful?
