Another Great Brians saga book!
The first book hatchet is in my opinion, the best book in the brians saga series. This book starts off where the first book ends. Its an alternative ending book and its worth reading. I would say hatchet is the best in the series and this is the second best. Its all about a boys survival in the winter with pretty much the basics. This book and hatchet are pretty "thrilling" (for a lack of better words), while the rest of the books in this series are good but pretty low key and laid back for the most part.
Great books for younger outdoors kids that like to camp, hunt and fish.
Please read my review of the first book hatchet.3 out of 4 people found this review helpful.

Whoa I loved this book
Brian's winter is an excellent book. If you like outdoors or just like adventurous books this is the one for you. It starts out with a boy named Brian flying to Canada to visit his dad. When his pilot had a heart attack and the plane crashed. The pilot was dead but Brian survived. He took the the survival pack from the plane and started to make a shelter. The pack had a gun, fishing pole, foam pad, and a sleeping bag. He started fishing, hunting and fixing his shelter. One day his gun broke. So he started making a bow out of fishing line and a firm stick. It was now almost winter and his shelter was not winter proof yet. So he took mud from the lake and packs a rock with it. He then rolled it in the opened end of the shelter. It was now winter and the shelter was winter proof. He continued to make bows and hunt for small animals. One day he was out walking when he approached a moose. Then he held his hatchet in front of him and the moose dropped on top of him. He was sore for a couple of days. But he had plenty of meat. He was walking buy the lake one day and found some toboggan tracks he followed them. He came to a family of trappers. He stayed with them for a couple of weeks. When the supply plane came back he rode back with him.

Brian's Winter
Its a great book. The book is very interesting. It pulls you in the story. Gary Paulsen is the one of the best authors ever. So is Suzzanne Collins. Lil' Ms.$wag wrote this.

In this book, Brian's Winter, Gary Paulsen describes Briain
In this book, Brian's Winter, Gary Paulsen describes Briain's survival in detail.I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone that loves the outdoors and love Gary Paulsen's books. The book starts where where Hatchet left off. He is also back in the Canadian wilderness. the items that brian is living off of is a .22 hunting rifle, sleeping bag, foam pad, fishing line, fishing pole, beef jerky, and other supplies. As brian is mainly living off of foolbird and rabbit, one day when he was hunting with his .22 the firing pin broke as he was about to kill a rabbit. As he went to camp he gets his bow and arrow and does some practice on a stump. After getting his food off of his bow, he realizes that winter is coming and almost alll the animal are hibernating. One night when Brian took fish to eat out of his pool, he left the guts out. The next morning a big grizzly bear is right at his feet. Brian, barely gets out alive. The bear is on a rampage for food and then destroys his camp.

Brian starts to make his bow by first finding a big and sturdy branch as the bow . He then strings it with the line he has. Then he finds small, thin branches for his arrow shaft. Next, he has to make arrowheads. He first thought on how the Indians made thiers: by flaking off rock to make it sharp. And that is what he did. Brian thought on how he would manage to tie the arrow heads on and all of his rabbit hides were dry, except one that got wet from the rain. He then found a way to tie the arrow heads. The next thing to do is put the feather on the end of the arrows.
Brian next one mornng seen two different wolves both have big slabs of meat in their mouths and fresh blood all over their faces. When they came he marked his territory( by peeing on a stump) they left. As they left he followed their tracks and eventually came upon a fresh deer kill. He looked on how they took down the young doe. He then quickly drug the deer to his camp.
One day as Brian was walking out he noticed a big moose. He was walking around for food it started to run at him at as it was Brian put his hatchet in front of him. As tyhe moose kept running it ran into the hatchet killing the moose. As he got it to his camp he had plenty to eat for awhile.
After awhile as Brian was near the lake he noticed tabogan tracks, and when he reached the end of them he found a log cabin that belonged to a trapping family. They let him stay awhile. Then eventually a supply heliocopter came and he went with the heliocopter. -
