The BEST of the best written by a genius.

My favorite of all Julie Garwood books. Her other books are works of art but THE BRIDE is the work of an artistic genius. Can you tell I love this story?

I've read this book at least 10 times since it was written and have just downloaded to my Nook so I can read it...

Julie Garwood, thank you for writing books.

Too much cheese & sausage

Forgive the crude title, but that sums up my opinion of this book. How was it a best-seller?? The plot is trite, the characters are flat & inconsistent, there's little build-up or suspense despite the murderer-on-the-loose sub-plot, and the love scenes were so frequent ...
Forgive the crude title, but that sums up my opinion of this book. How was it a best-seller?? The plot is trite, the characters are flat & inconsistent, there's little build-up or suspense despite the murderer-on-the-loose sub-plot, and the love scenes were so frequent and overblown that I skipped over most of them. Jamie is adored by everyone, yet isn't an extraordinary character in any way except her beauty. The love and loyalty of the clan is so easily and quickly won that it has no value. To top it off, these supposedly proud warriors constantly singing Jamie's praises to each other just made me want to gag. Ugh.

If this book were twice as long, with at least half the Jamie-praising & s/he loves me, s/he loves me not time dedicafed to plot and character-development, this could have been so good. As it is, if you want a satisfying narrative about a strong woman and her highland laird, read Gabaldon's "Outlander" series. (I know I was hard on Garwood here... to be fair, this is only the second of her books I've read, and I actually enjoyed Lion's Lady quite a bit more.)

Am I missing something? With so many positive reviews and a love

Am I missing something? With so many positive reviews and a love for scottish themed romance novels, I enthusiastically set out to read The Bride. I will not lie and say that it wasn't entertaining, it kept me reading but the author failed to write much depth for the heroin or many of the other characters for that matter. The heroin often came of like a childish brat and was so adored by everyone around her that it became too unrealistic and cheesy (even for a romance novel). Any ways, for some shallow entertainment it works but I didn't become too attached to the story or characters. I would recommend the Highland Guard Series by Monica McCarthy instead.
