I admit I am biased as I know both the author and the subject of this charming story, but I literally couldn't put this book down and stayed up to finish it. It's a fascinating glimpse at life in Poland for poor Jews in the 1920s. It speaks not only to Jews, but to anyone whose family came to America during that time period. It's a book for 8 - 12 year olds, but would be a great family read.
