I lost inches in all of the right places!

I stumbled across this book while browsing the wedding etiquette aisle at B&N. Just flipping through it I knew I needed to buy it. That very day I bought some weights and an exercise ball and got started. What helped me was writing the exercises out in a journal for each week ahead of time. I had a column for the exercises, the number of sets, the weight for that exercise and the number of reps. This way I could keep track of my progress. I also kept track of my weight and measurements each week. I pretty much couldn't find time for the cardio portion and feel my results would have been better if I had done the cardio, but... The things I liked about this book were the basic, yet effective, exercises. The amount of time it took to complete each session ranged from 45-60 minutes depending on the number of sets. You are given 2 different options for the program you want to follow: a 24-week program and a 12-week crash course. There wasn't anything I didn't like about the way the programs were set up. I chose the 12-week crash course and my results were fantastic. Not enough to have to get more alterations to my dress but enough to make my dress fit much more comfortably. Here are my results after 12 weeks: weight lost 7.5 pounds, 2 inches from my chest (measured above the breasts and under the arms), 2 inches at the waist, 1 inch from the hips, 1 inch from the thighs, and 1 inch from the calf. Now, I was in pretty good shape before I started this program, but like I said it was enough to give me some breathing room in my dress. I am still doing this program, although not as religiously, and I haven't put any weight back on 4 months after my wedding. I would highly recommend you buy this book if you can give 3-4 days a week for 45-60 minutes each day to feel and look great on your wedding day!

More of a marketing ploy than helpful workout book....

This was okay, but the exercises are kind of counterproductive and time-wasters if you know a lot about exercise science. It seems like they wrote a lackluster, generic exercise book and slapped a bride on the cover just to get some sales. It was a waste of money, in my most honest opinion.

If you're a bride looking to get fit for your big day, I HIGHLY recommend purchasing "New Rules of Lifting for Women" by Lou Schuler and "Master Your Metabolism" by Jillian Michaels. Those two books have a lifetime worth of great workouts and nutritional information that will not only help you get the dress zipped all the way up, but eat a proper diet so you have radiant skin, silky hair, and more energy to dance long into the night on your big day!

    I have a question...

How is it that Buff Brides was published in 2010 but reviews are coming from 2002? E-readers werent even around then (i thought)

Otherwise it was a fantastic book! The programs described worked well.

Great for easy to intermediate workouts!

Gives you practical goals for working out and I enjoyed the lifting exercises. The only downside is that you are expected to buy dumbbells of multiple sizes and a workout ball, but I was able to modify the workouts and not buy the ball. They just take up so much space!

    This program works!

I've worked out for a while, but never saw the muscle tone I wanted in my arms. After only a few weeks on this program, I began to notice definition. And other people did to! My fiance and some friends all said I looked buff. The program is easy to follow, easy to fit into a busy schedule, and realistic. As long as you do the plan, you'll see results! And I didn't even alter my eating habits (which are fairly healthy, but I do love dessert!

    Realistic program!

This book is great. It took me too long to get started, but once I realized that the weight training only takes a little over half an hour 3 days a week, it became a lot easier to get into the gym and do it (and the greatest part is that you need so little equipment, you don't even really have to go into a gym at all). The beginning of the program is really realistic, too: I tend to overdo it every time I get back into the gym after a prolonged absense and end up too sore to go as often as I should; the beginner/intermediate categories really helped me stay in my fitness level and so soreness was minimal. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who feels that they need a little more motivation to start getting in shape, bride or not.
