Finally a coop book that tells me HOW to build it!

I just finished reading Building Chicken Coops for Dummies and I am so relieved to find a book that truly does give me step by step instructions! I have a shelf full of chicken books (how to care for them, feed them, etc) but nowhere could I find detailed information on how to build their coop - until NOW. Most books or even websites show cute coop photos but don't give the nuts and bolts needed to actually build. But this book does! It give specific how to, step by step instructions for building a huge variety of coops. (Everything from the chicken tractor to a walk in coop). And the "step-by-step" is what I need. But what really cinched a "5 star" rating for me, was the fact that the authors include descriptions and reasons for specific materials, detailed plans AND then tell you HOW to do it. For a novice like me, this is key. They even explain the different saw blades you need for the different materials. Perfect. I especially appreciate the details about the location and size of the roost, nesting box and even ramps or stairs. All important considerations - all spelled out for you. If you are thinking of building your own coop, I highly recommend this book. It is giving me the confidence to do this on my own.

Do not order this book if you think it is for dummies, it's not.

I was expecting all coops to be easy in this book no matter the size, very, very wrong. The name is very misleading and would not recommend it for someone who wants a nice, easy, big coop to house your chickens. It gets into FP's, SP's and all kinds of angle cuts so if you do not have the right tools it is useless let alone knowing what they are talking about. An experienced carpenter could handle all of these coops with ease, not for us dummies, the simple ones, a couple, yes. I hope I can find what I'm looking for.

A must read for beginners...don't have to be a dummy!

I read this book and the Raising Chickens for Dummies, both are a must read for getting into chickens and know what you need. EVERYONE will have their way to do things. But with these books you can discovery the facts and develop your way. That is what I love about the Dummies books, they get you headed in the informed direction and from there you have what you have learned so you make your own map with sound directions.....Chickenheart
