Wonderful story telling. The book makes you feel a part of the Island life.

Bulls Island, like the rest of Dorothea Benton Frank's books, Make you feel like you are part of the island / Charleston life. Not only does she deal with today but she brings out the history in her people and how it shapes their lives.

This is a light read...interesting concept, okay to read, but really could've used more depth in the characters. The characters SOUNDED interesting... but they needed more interaction to make them truly come to life. It was like the author did a quick brush over for the characters, when I really was curious and wanted to know more... almost like she didn't want to write that much. I did find some of the writing to be amateurish---like when one character died, she explained that another character was 'white as a cadaver'...odd connection to make, I thought. There was great potential there for a heart-wrenching love story, but it ended up limited--almost like the writer didn't know how to write the detail that would touch your soul.

The story was good and I enjoyed the book, however, I felt that it was a little "rushed". At times it seemed like the characters did a complete 180 with regard to their feelings and reactions to a particular situation instead of taking the time to have them come around more slowly over time. All in all, it was an enjoyable book and I would recommend it.

Welcome to the sultry, sexy South...

Since I enjoy mixing up my reading with "learning experiences", paranormal flights and just fun trips alternating with one another, I like to visit Dorothea Benton Frank's hot and sassy gals every once in a while. While this is not the best of her books, I enjoyed an easy, fast plot complete with lost love rediscovered, evil manipulators punished and a couple of surprises that I didn't see coming. Development of wild land by corporate pillagers, militant environmentalists going too far and loved thwarted. Pretty good elements for a beach read.

    Playing by your own rules

JD Langley is an honorable man born to parents who live by their own rules. Betts Barrett is a somewhat honorable woman born to honorable parents. On the night JD and Betts, childhood sweethearts, announce their wedding at a dinner held at JD parents home, JD¿s mother makes a comment so rude and unforgivable, that Betts¿ parents leave. JD¿s father tells them to wait until the storm blows over but Betts dad insists upon leaving. On the way home, a truck hydroplanes and runs over the car. Betts mom dies. Betts sister blames her for their mother¿s death and the emotional strain becomes too much for Betts and she runs to Atlanta. Betts company sends her back to Charleston to oversee a land development investment and she comes face-to-face with JD. During her time away from JD she did something that made her guilt-ridden and shameful and before she and JD can renew their relationship she must tell him what it is. How will he react? Will she lose him all over again? Will JD prove himself to be an image of his parents? Bulls Island is a fun and humorous read.
