    It Is a Knockout

I enjoyed this book very much. You really need not be boxing fan to like this book. It a book the weaves detailed history and entertainment into one without really trying. I would think it would make a terrific movie.

    Not Just For Fight Fans.

I bought my copy from Ron Ross at the Boxing Hall of Fame. It would be a mistake to think you have to be a fight buff or a fan of mob books to enjoy this. Ross's research pays off as this books takes you for trip back to the 20's, 30's and 40's. You get such a feel for the time and place, Brownsville section of Brooklyn. I would hope a big time movie producer and director get a hold of this. I think it would make a terrific film.

BEST BOXING AND MOB BOOK I HAVE READ

NO ONE CAPTURES LIFE IN BROWNSVILLE LIKE ROSS. HIS LOVE FOR HIS SUBJECT MATTER IS EVIDENT IN HIS COLORFUL PROSE. THIS IS A CAN'T PUT DOWN READ. SIT BACK AND GET LOST FOR A DAY OR TWO AT MOST, BECAUSE YOU WON'T SLEEP UNTIL YOU'RE THROUGH.

    An emotional roller-coaster

I took this book from my husband's night table because I never saw him stay up to read a book in one night before. Now I was the one to read through the night. I expected a book about a prizefighter(that's why my husband got it originally)but instead read the history of how a community of hardworking immigrants were affected by the Prohibition and the Depression and the brutal killers that this period gave rise to. I had to cheer and cry for the young Jewish prizefighter who seemed always to be on a collision course with Murder, Inc. How the author, Ron Ross, brings together all the wonderful characters and historical events and blends the interaction into one of the most fascinating reads I have ever had was an absolute work of art. It wasn't that I didn't want to put the book down - I couldn't!

Ross captures the heart and soul of Bummy Davis and the quintessence of the times.

Ron Ross wrote this book as though he were there. His descriptions of the people and the places were not only moving, they were like reading in a time warp where you the reader were there. Great book, great story.
