Well worth the read - good
When I first started reading this one, (it is connected to J.R. Rain's Vampire for Hire books) it was evident that although the style is different from Rain's books, the same flavor of story is there. It pushed my imagination a bit too far at first with the protagonist's character and the quick way his trauma was handled. I understand that this was necessary, but it made it feel rushed until about half-way into the book. It slowed down and became more interesting after that where I could get more into the story. The point of fiction is to get lost in the story, and there has to be an element of "that could happen if the world was really like that" to make it enjoyable. It was hard at first to get swept away that way in this book, but it got there. The next installment of the series was easier to get into as the preliminary introductions of the character's angst was done in this book. The bottom line is it is a companion series to Rain's Vampire series, and it is enjoyable to read and got better as you went.
