A good review book for basic syntax

This book was good because it got me back into the hang of things after not programming in C for about 2 years. It does keep it simple, though I did have some trouble with the referenced compiler. Other than that, it serves as an excellent reference for those who know what they want to do, but don't quite remember how to write it.

    Very concise

As a Perl programmer I needed a quick intro to C so that I could patch somebody else's code which, although used only for Perl but being itself a hardware driver, is of course written in C. I grabbed this book on sale at the B-and-N store yesterday and have zipped through the first three chapters in a couple/three hours. It is very concise and easy to follow. So far all the example code works on GCC for both Win32 and NetBSD operating systems...except for a trivial oops on page 34 where the example program 'const.c' neglected to flush the first line to STDIO so that the user would get the question they are supposed to answer. This makes the program appear to hang and might have confused me had I not guessed the problem from past experience in Perl, PostScript, Forth, etc. There had ought to be an errata web page for little typos like that. Other publishers have them. Why not B-and-N? Otherwise I am very happy with this first intro book to C. At the price I am finding it an excellent choice.

    An excellent resource for students

As the title states, this book makes clear the ANSI C language in easily digestable bites. While some of the reviews have stated that this book is difficult to understand, my experience has been quite the opposite. The book presents the basic concepts of C to get you started on your programs right away. The best part about this book is the use of the freely available GCC compiler!

Confusing, Complicated definitely not for the beginner

This book despite its title is not meant for the average beginner.Intermediate is more like it. It was so complicated I couldn't even get passed the first step. I would recommend C for dummies as a much better book for entering the world of programming.

    Favorite Book

C Programming in Easy Steps is the best programming book I've ever read. It explains all of the ANSI C standard libraries (this means the basic C programming language) in a great step-by-step, easy to follow way. Unlike most programming books that go on and on and on with the author's commentary and bore you sick, C Programming in Easy Steps keeps it very basic. But it keeps it basic in such a way that you can easily understand it. In terms of code, C Programming in Easy Steps is up to date. And there are only about 2-3 coding errors in the book, all of which can be solved without too much trouble. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn C quick and easily.
