The influence of the Bible on Kafka, Bialik, Joyce et al
I've read 85 pages so far. Robert Alter, is a wonderful easy to read writer. Yet I never felt as if I were being talked down to. He is at ease with this sacred and secular subject. I am just sorry that I do not read Hebrew so I could enjoy that erotic Song of Songs. The double canonicity is the sacred and the subject matter. This is a good read for me who am trying to see the creative writings of the Bible and the connection to modern third rate religious writing.Thanks.Was this review helpful?
