This was an interesting read from the perspective of someone who actually lived it. I picked up on some themes throughout the book: in some cases you can see the author being sympathetic or understanding of his captors (somewhat to be expected of hostages); his disdain for American decisions as to why we were over there (remember 9/11 anyone??) is occasionally evident; the disconnect of him admiring the simple life of living/traveling/being captive in the mountains of AfPak, but he lives in NYC. Some of the daily descriptions of life in his prison hut were slightly repetitive but still informing. I was disappointed in the ending - I would have liked him to want to find out (and tell us the reader) was his capture due to betrayal, who paid his ransom and more of what people on the outside did to help. A lot of that was left unanswered. Still, glad I bought the book.
