This is a truly marvelous book, as are all of Anna Campbell's books. If you like the redemption of a wounded hero, this is the book for you. Gideon has a past that gives him nightmares, and he has almost given up on life. It takes the courage and patience of a devoted woman to give him hope. I hope you will check out this book and others by Anna Campbell. There's no fluff in her stories. They are deep and powerful.

enduring human spirit, healing power of love

Nothing pleases me more as a reader than to be captured by a story line and to become so involved with the characters that I am actually immersed in the book. With "Captive of Sin", Anna Campbell made me a captive of the wonderfully emotional and passionate love story of Gideon and Charis! A wounded hero, scarred in every sense of the word. A vulnerable, spirited heroine on the run from an abusive family. Two hearts destined to meet, and to face seemingly insurmountable odds before triumphing in life and love! I was turning the pages, leaning forward in my seat, and I think I spoke out loud in response to what I was reading! Ms. Campbell is a wonderful storyteller, combining heartfelt emotions with scorching passion, and adding in thrilling intrigue and adventure! I look forward, with great reader's relish, to getting lost in more works by the very addictive Anna Campbell : )

Too dark for my taste

I have really mixed feelings about this book. Even for a reader who usually enjoys more substantial romances, this was more harrowing than I expected. It was simply too relentless sad a story for my taste and I had a hard time believing that love alone could conquer the barriers that PTSD created. That said, it was beautifully written and I cared about the characters. I just couldn't buy a happy ending and that is what I read romance for.

An engaging Regency romantic suspense

In 1821 in Winchester Sir Gideon Trevithick enters his stable only to find a frightened battered woman hiding inside. The abuse she obviously received makes him realize she is afraid of him too and knows her tale is a poorly constructed fabrication starting with the name Miss Watson. He offers her a safe shelter, which she desperately accepts.

Heiress Lady Charis Weston finally explains to her kind protector that her stepbrothers want control of her wealth that they will lose in three weeks when she turns twenty-one and is no longer their ward. She fled their latest brutality to force her to give up her money to them. Gideon has his own demons, but proposes a marriage of convenience to protect Charis. However, she wants more from her protector than just safety and is willing to seduce him to prove they belong together.

This engaging Regency romantic suspense hooks the audience the moment Sir Gideon finds Lady Charis in peril from her odious avaricious stepbrothers who have no redeeming qualities whatsoever; as each believes it is their right to abuse their sister and waste her inheritance on their frivolity. The story line is fast-paced never slowing down even with sensual desires between the lead couple. As the hero confronts his demons and she hers, they fall in love to the delight of historical romance readers, but both of them and the enchanted audience know her siblings will never stop conniving for what they believe is theirs.
