An Extraordinary Book of Extraordinary Tales
I first encountered this book nearly 30 years ago when friends read aloud The Story of Mushkil Gusha one Thursday night. The story, like the book that contains it, is like a rose that remains ever fresh, yielding more and deeper meaning as one grows more familiar with it. Stories in the book, like The Magic Horse and The Tale of Melon city, are more than just entertaining. They provoke thought and evoke insight. Read this book, share it with friends, and you will find treasure here! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Caravan of Dreams
This is a wonderful book. It¿s not only very enjoyable but it also contains many layers of insight which appear to unfold with every re-reading. Like other works by Idries Shah, it seems to operate in a `scattered¿ yet coherent manner ¿keeping you mentally on your toes, encouraging flexibility and the capacity to look at usual things in unusual ways, with new clarity. This diversity includes teaching stories, sayings of the Prophet, proverbs, and the fascinating account of the author¿s trip to Mecca. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Eastern Wisdom for the West
I found this book to be an outstanding anthology of oral & written literature from the East. It's a resplendent literary Caravan laden with jokes, poems, meditations, Traditions of the Prophet and Sufi teaching tales. It even takes us inside the walls of the Forbidden City-- Mecca. Exotic, mysterious yet strangely familiar, this book reveals what we have in common with the East and what we can learn from this region. The writing is brilliant. Not a word is wasted. It's loaded with evocative, often bracing language that provokes insight, greater understanding and flexible thinking. It helps us see ourselves as we are and points to what we could become. This book will be cherished by real and armchair travellers alike, by lovers of fine literature and by those searching for a fresh, lively and practical approach to spirituality. This 'caravan of dreams' awakens us to greater possibilities and prepares us for the journey homeward. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
