Carrie Goes Off the Map is the perfect escapist read. I raced through it, desperate to know what happened between heroine Carrie - on the rebound after being dumped by her long-time boyfriend Huw - and the delectable doctor Matt Landor. When these two find themselves on a road trip to theEnglish West Country sharing a VW camper van named Dolly, you just know the romantic sparks are going to fly. There's plenty of trademark Phillipa Ashley humour along the way and the descriptions of Cornwall are fabulous. Ms. Ashley's existing fans will love Carrie Goes Off the Map and for anyone new to her books, this is a wonderful place to start.

    Fun Escape Read

Carrie was set to marry Huw, until 2 weeks before their wedding he dumps her. Four months later, a chance meeting in a bathroom reveals that Huw is getting married that afternoon to the woman many suspect he cheated on Kay with. She storms the wedding site and decides to take out her anger on a floral arrangement when Matt tries to stop her.

Carrie's best friend, Rowena, decides that they need a trip through Europe. Just as they're about to get in the car to leave, Rowena backs out for a role on a medical soap. In her place, she's gotten Matt to go. Carrie isn't happy. Desperate to get out of town for awhile, she reluctantly agrees.

While they don't travel to Europe, Carrie deos go on an adveture. Both Carrie and Matt have pasts they would like to escape. Both meet intersting people and go on a trip that, ultimately, changes their lives.

Not a gripping read, but a nice escape book when you want to live vicariously through someone else's journey.

Many contemporary romance and chick-lit books read just like a romantic comedy.  Two lonely or scorned people meet, they spend a lot of time together, they argue or some kind of misunderstanding happens and they refuse to speak to one another… only to find their way back to each other, a happily ever after in their very near future, leaving a smile on your face.  Carrie Goes Off the Map gives you just that.

Carrie is left two weeks before her wedding (after a 10 year relationship!) because her fiancé cheated on her.  Her best friend takes her in and decides she needs something to get her mind off of it, so she arranges a European vacation for the two of them in a vintage VW van.  But when her friend, Rowena, is given a job opportunity, she has to find a stand in for the vacation.  That stand in is her friend, Matt.  Matt has his own problems and needs the distraction as well.  The two of them spend time together, nagging, arguing, and essentially developing hidden feelings for one another.  When their time gets intense, they go their separate ways.  It’s years later, when they run in to each other, that the two finally realize and act on their feelings for one another, a la Pride and Prejudice.

I adored the characters in the book.  The chemistry between Matt and Carrie was awesome.  During their trip, their moments were hilarious yet touching.  You just knew they HAD to end up together.  I also enjoyed Rowena.  She was light-hearted and fun, and clearly has her friend’s best interests at heart. I loved the idea of the road trip.  How much fun would that be?!  Their trip was a big highlight of the story, as it was entertaining and was what brought the characters to each other.

Overall, I enjoyed this sweet romance, and am looking forward to reading more from this very talented author.

The leading male character is not developed well. The relationship between the two lead characters is not developed and it is rushed. Beginning of book difficulty to follow characters as it moves from the leading feamil to the leading male then the rest of the book is strictly the leading femail. Story was good but not given enough time to develop.

I loved this book! Funny, escapist, romantic, and a little bit naughty ... I couldn't ask for more out of a romance really - apart from my very own camper van. And Dr Matt Landor all to myself.
