This is by far the best Statistics book ever!!! I've read a few books on statistics and this is a fun, easy read.

    I Also Recommend:

A book that's hard to keep on the shelf

I think I've owned 4 or 5 copies of this book over the past 10 or so years. I wish I had known of its existence when I was completing my MA degree when I had one class on statistics (after never truly needing to understand much about the subject for my BS degree). But, after initially discovering the book at a Barnes & Noble years ago, I found the cartoon presentations of so many seemingly (and actually) complex statistical definitions and concepts to be a breakthrough in helping me and many of my students understand and apply these to our given research.

The reason I've repurchased this book over and over is because I've had so many co-workers or students who, like me, were having a hard time grasping and applying the myriad statistical methods, that I found it easier to "lend" the book out instead of letting it gather dust on my bookshelf. And, considering my laxity in enforcing my unwritten (and, thruthfully, nonexistent) return policy, a number of copies have disappeared from sight, hopefully being passed along to the next person in need.

But knowing that the book, albeit nearly 17 years old now, is still available sporadically in B&N stores, I don't worry too much about losing my next copy to someone who needs it more than me. Considering the nature of my workplace (a mid-size community college), I like knowing I have a copy nearby, ready to spring into action for the next student struggling with their "Stats" class or the colleague with a looming deadline looking to analyze a mountain of data for their dissertation or annual grant report.

Statistics is not Sadistic after all!

Many of my students get confused over some of the rules/exceptions in statistics. I recommend this book to all of my students as a supplemental book to help clear the confusion. Gonick and Smith are savers of the statistical race!

must have for any one new to statistical functions

I use the book to clarify information in my statistics text. The illustrations make it easy to apply the traditional formula applciation to relative situations. Very practical and useful.
