Review of Chancellorsville by Ernest B. Furguson
Excellent review of the battle at Chancellorsville in 1863. The early brilliant flanking move by Hooker and the counters by Lee and Jackson plus the failure of Hooker to manage a major battle become evident. Every good historical novel needs maps to visualize the situation.. this book has a dozen. This battle sets up the next steps of the civil war including Gettysburg and points out how the loss of Stonewall Jackson becomes a key element in the final outcome.
