Cheech and Chong: The Unauthorized Autobiography

Cheech and Chong gone wrong.

There is a scene early on in the book where Tommy Chong is sitting in an airport. He hasn't seen Cheech Marin in a while, and is surprised to see him walking towards him carrying on an intense conversation with someone. Even though Cheech passes very close by without noticing him sitting there, Chong does not speak nor reach out to get his attention. It is story to illustrate how their relationship has deteriorated. But unfortunately, the story also serves as the lens through which the story of Cheech and Chong is told.

"Cheech and Chong: The Unauthorized Autobiography" is not really about Cheech and Chong at all. It is more of an autobiography of Tommy Chong, in which some obligatory stories about Cheech are told. Cheech does not even appear until many chapters into the book. And, unlike Chongs' excellent book "The I-Chong: Meditations From The Joint," this book with a colon in the title is not really funny.

I read this book expecting a humorous celebration of one of my all time, classic comedy teams. Not so much. Still an interesting story, but not the one that is advertised.
