Child Obesity: A Parent's Guide to a Fit, Trim, and Happy Child

My friends Alan and Betty actually purchased this book to help their son Matt. I happened to borrow it one day, more out of curiosity than anything else. My wife and I have two children, both of whom are healthy, weight-wise. I learned so much! I think the information Dr. Rao provides is useful for any parent. He is incredibly skilled at explaining complex medical information to people without a medical background in terms that are easy to understand. Who knew that soft drinks could add so many pounds, or that T.V. before bedtime is a terrible idea? Dr. Rao's book is brilliant. I highly recommend it.

Child Obesity: A Parent's Guide to a Fit, Trim, and Happy Child

My husband and I have been struggling with our son's weight for years. He is thirteen and has already been on six different diets and spent 4 weeks last summer at a bootcamp for overweight teens. Child Obesity: A Parent's Guide to a Fit, Trim, and Happy Child is the first real help we've found. I love the carefully explained scientific explanations for what makes children overweight. Understanding that alone has given our family the confidence to help our son. It is so refreshing to read a book about obesity that makes sense. Dr. Rao's impeccable credentials and careful review of the evidence means that you can definitely trust the information. The solution to the problem is not fad diets, but practical, scientifically sound advice. This book packages this advice wonderfully!

    Fantastic advice!

My daughter is eleven-years-old and has been steadily gaining weight. At just 4'11', she weighs more than 150lbs. I've purchased and read a lot of the 'diet' books out there. I'm no scientist, but I recognize that most of them are useless. Dr. Rao's masterfully written book is the first one I've come across that is grounded in real science. It is incredibly easy to read, and Dr. Rao's advice is both rational and practical. I strongly recommend this book to any parent who is concerned about their child's weight.
