A Must-Have for a Family Home Library
After our second grade daughter brought this home from her school library, three times in a row, we purchased it for her for her birthday. She was thrilled! Our fifth grader was found reading it under her covers by flashlightWas this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
This book is a great read-aloud for parents and children to share. The editor assumes that children enjoy poetry which is both literary and challenging. I was amazed at how much my young daughter could enjoy and interpret the poems in this book that I first met in high school and college. We had some great discussions.
Forget some of the recent celebrity compilations. This book has it all: Blake, Yeats, Dickinson and Angelou, etc. etc. Parents will be amazed at how varied the selections are.
This volume is also a great resource for homework assignments. There are many poems that a grade school, middle school or high student could memorize for a public speaking class or share with a literature class. Worth the price for a hardcover classic.
