    Speaks Directly To My Lifestyle

    Over the years I have invested in many books on nutrition and fitness, but this is the first one that truly addresses my situation. I exercise regularly, but training and working out doesn¿t rule my life. I am not fat and I don¿t need a diet book, I need a nutrition book. I need a better understanding of what foods are best for my body based on my level of activity. What¿s more, I need to know why. I like the sections on carbohydrates, how they¿re used, and why I need them. As Chris says, low-carb diets are meant for some people, but not for my lifestyle. Carmichael¿s view of food as fuel was really helpful, as was the idea that exercise should be aimed at gaining fitness and not just merely burning calories. The book also gave structure and meaning to the ways my eating habits change during the year; now I see why I do and should eat more when I¿m running more in the summer. Likewise, it¿s great to have a plan for reducing calories in the fall and winter, when I¿m not running as much. The book gives the information behind its assertions, and it¿s readable and easy to understand instead of being overly technical.

    I Also Recommend:

    NOT for beginners!

    This book is NOT for people just getting into nutrition. It is GREAT for those who already have a decent base knowledge. Awesome for those needing more specific help getting the right amount of calories from the correct nutritional sources.

    Awesome Information from the Best! Must Have!

    Carmichael is Lance Armstrong's coach of many years, as well as other excellent atheletes. How can you not want to read his book about fitness and food? Well, this book was even more than I expected. He explains how to break the training-exercising year into 4 main sections devoted to foundation work, preparation, specialization, and transition. He then subdivides these into 4-week blocks, and then 7 day blocks. He explains how food needs are related to how you are training, and explains about the important differences between carbs, fats, and protiens. (By the way, he says that low-carbing is NOT for the athelete!) He even includes various shopping, cooking, supplementation, and eating-on-the-go ideas. Older, younger, men, and women atheletes are given special consideration too. This is likely to be one of THE BOOKS on fitness and nutrition-food. Exceptional and Highly recommended!
