A wonderful book to read at Christmas time ! Everyone needs a book like this at Christmas!

I read this book following another in the series by the same author. I ended up buying all of the books in the series and enjoyed each one! Purchased them for my Mother for her birthday in early December so she could also enjoy them during the Christmas season! I highly recommend the series to anyone needing to recapture the Christmas magic of your childhood and restore your faith in your fellow humans. I laughed I cried and couldn't wait to read the next book. I emailed the author and she was so very nice . These books were just what I needed to read!

Donna Van Liere has numerous books about Christmas hope, love, and God's working in people's lives. This particular book is especially good as it is basically about God's grace. Sixty something, Gloria, lives alone since the death of her husband seven years ago, when her 17 year old son ran away and her other children were grown and living away with their own families. She has a special wish that has been hanging on her tree for years--a prayer for God.

Gloria spends her day helping people. She takes in second had clothes and anything else that people leave for her. She also collects food in large amounts. Her house doesn't always look spectacular when cars or old refrigerators are outside being worked on. Her crabby next door neighbor, Mariam, never missis an opportunity to complain to Gloria about her "repairs" in the yard, until one day when Mariam returns from a trip to find her house flooded. With no place else to go, Gloria invites Mariam to stay with her.

Meanwhile, Chaz, who is a drifter, drinker, grumpy but good hearted man, gets a job in security at a local department store and winds up becoming a part time babysitter to one of the employees precocious 5 year old son with issues of his own. Van Liere's connections of all these people, plus a few others, creatively and wonderfully illustrates God's grace in this lovely sentimental Christmas story. I listened to this on Audible and believe it enhanced the story a great deal. Hope there are lots more if these stories for the future holiday seasons!

    IMPACT!

There is one line in this book that says, “Find out what breaks your heart and get busy.” Ever since reading this book several years ago, I can’t get it out of my head. For me, this has been one of those rare fictional reads that makes you take a hard look at yourself and strive to be what God intended.
Yet, as with watching the sun rise, God is there only if you choose to include him.

A warm and wonderful way to spend a few touching hours

VanLiere is a gifted author who appeals to me at several levels...the tenderness, realism, interesting interaction between characters, and love, not in the kissy-huggy sense. Great read!

    Great Read

Just as heartwarming as the first book. I loved how the characters were a bit quirky or eccentric, but lovable. There was a plot twist I didn't expect and as usual, a message of love, family, friendship and goodwill. Not as much mention of the Christmas Shoes characters, which makes this more of a stand alone, but certainly doesn't detract from the beautiful story. Great read.

I loved this book. It was full of compassion and growth within all of the characters. The Character development progressed continuously throughout the story. This was the first book I have read by this author and felt well connected with the story even though I had not read any of the previous books in this series.

I kept thinking of the scripture Matthew 25:40 “Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” as I read.

Though I feel this story is good for most everyone, some of the subjects that are addressed are not for all ages. It includes working with and helping those most in need which includes all walks of life.

    I Also Recommend:

    I loved reading this book!

I really love how easy it was to relate to the characters. I felt like I was in the middle of a Hallmark movie, the story was so touching, I really felt a part of there lives. The book went so fast and I'm a moderately slow reader, I really enjoyed how good this book was! I'm going to continue reading her books because they left me with a loving feeling when I was done with it!

Recommended to all!
