What Great Southern Characters
I just finished this book and, as a Southerner myself, I think it is great Southern literature. These people are real to me. Allou Broder is strong and caring and Mack Brown is the kind of man every teenager should have as a first boss. There is both beauty and ugliness in the people in this story, and the plot is so carefully crafted it kept me on edge all the way through. I don't think I will ever forget Jimmie Broder and Colletta and Ray-Gene and DJ. This may be the best "first novel" I've ever read!
