There is So Much Civil War Trivia Out There, but this Book is a Gem
The late Webb Garrison, although not as well-known as a Bruce Catton or a James McPherson, wrote a series of books on Civil War events ranging from notable figures, strange battles, unusual incidents, and (relatively) unknown stories about the conflict. In this well-illustrated book, Garrison chose the Q&A format to answer many interesting questions. There is, of course which Civil War leader's ancestral home became a National Graveyard (Lee), which failed clerk became the greatest General on the Union side (Grant), which Southern Generals were born in the North (Pemberton of Vicksburg fame is but one, there were quite a few others) and which Northern Generals were born in the South (George Thomas, and many more). Was this review helpful? Garrison also writes of many firsts and lasts in this War Between the States, where the first battle was fought, the first casualties on both sides, and where the last battle took place, among other trivia and facts. "Civil War Trivia and Fact Book" is a slim volume to be sure, but like a good hors'douerve it whets the appetitte of the Civil War buff for more. A deserving addition to anyone's general Civil War library.
