Informative and interesting with good supporting materials
I found this book to be very informative. It helps that it is written by an MD. A lot of times these sorts of cleansing programs are written by alternative medicine writers, which is fine, but for some of us it helps to hear an MD say something is OK too. I liked the CLEAN program and also the variety of explanations and information in this book. I also liked the comparisons of this method to other methods, and how the author says you can do this system for a short time or longer if you want and he explains the difference in outcome for each length of time. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding why one book says this food is OK and another says the same food is not OK, but whatever, this is a good book to get if you want to detox. It added to my knowledge and helped me move to a CLEANer state. Definitely read EFFORTLESS WELLBEING also, if you want to be more pure on all levels. The author of CLEAN recommends meditation and such. I have read nothing that comes close for me to helping with wellness and stress reduction than EFFORTLESS WELLBEING.

Here's the bottom line...
I will save you ten bucks by giving you the bottom line of this book. While the information is good, it basically says: By eating constantly, humans don't give their bodies a chance to rest and repair themselves. In the "hunter-gatherer" days, we had times of feast, but we also had times of famine where our bellies weren't full.
Therefore, our bodies are adapted to having times of famine (or "fasting") to maintain health by using the energy normally used in digestion to repair the body.
Here's how to regain health by giving our bodies a self-imposed famine: drink your meals for a period of at least 3 weeks by juicing fruits and vegetables, blending them (esp. green smoothies) or drinking clear-broth soups. [The doctor/author says to only do this if you don't have any compromising health conditions, such as diabetes, or aren't taking medications that would not warrant it, such as Warfarin/Coumadin.]
That's it: Don't eat solid foods for a few weeks. (You will be full if you blend your foods instead of just juicing them, thereby keeping the fiber intact.)
I do agree that the current mindset of "grazing" by eating every few hours to maintain a sense of fullness might keep our metabolism high, but our digestion is always "on." It never gets a break.
Another way to self-impose a famine is something I am trying to do: do not eat after dinner. This is when people can consume an extra 1,000 calories by mindlessly eating in front of the TV.
So give your body a break by drinking your meals for a while (and periodically) and it will thank you with increased healthfulness.
I've also given your wallet and time commitment a boost by not having to read the entire book. Now, go blend something.6 out of 8 people found this review helpful.

Clean
My husband purchased this book after our daughter, not one to follow fad diets, raved about how fabulous she felt after following the 3 week plan. She lost 10lbs. and discovered that she shouldn't eat dairy foods. My husband lost 14lbs. and has modified his diet. I found the menus simple to prepare, although the soups were very tastless.

Useful way to provide educational, informative and life changing information
I bought this book after seeing the author on Martha Stewart. Very easy recipes and very motivating to change your lifestyle. The materials were presented in such a way that it made it seem that it was a no-brainer to make ourselves healthy. What I found very inspiring was that the author, a doctor, was living an unhealthy lifestyle and this book was his chronology of his journey to give his body what it needed to heal itself and be in optimal health.

Inspiring Lifestyle Change
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it inspired my husband and I to not only do the Clean Program (book version), but to change the way our family eats. I did not realize how important our digestive system is to our health. Extremely informative and life changing!

An incredible book
I can't remember the last time I was inspired so much to do something. I feel even if you don't do the program, you can learn so much from the book. It is easy to read and re-read. I have been recommending it to everyone. It seems like a good book for people who want to get the toxins out of their body, or for people with digestive or allergy problems. He even gives examples of other health problems that have resolved themselves. Just an Amazing Book!

Good thing if you have lots of willpower!
At first, I was really excited because I thought it was going to be really easy to follow. I have detoxed in the past with water, but this seemed much less aggressive. It was fine until the 5th day. I could not stick with it. The thought of doing it for another 16 days was unthinkable. I also did the combo kit and book plan. My husband is doing a modified version.
