Wonderful! Should be in everyone's library.
This is my favorite commentary to use. I have used my old one so much that it is literately falling apart. The translation is really first rate also.
If you are not familiar with Friedman's other works, such as WHO WROTE THE BIBLE, you should read them also. He writes well and it it not difficult to understand without writing down to you.

Friedman Does it Again!
Friedman is unique among Biblical scholars in being able to write with humor and wit, as well as a penetrating erudition that permeates all his work. If you think that a biblical commentary has to be boring, or if you think the old translation you've used forever is just fine--think again! Friedman's translation of the first five books of the Bible--and his sparkling commentary--turn 'Commentary on the Torah' into an exciting page-turner that will make you think, laugh, and reflect. Whatever your religion, whatever your level of belief or doubt, this is the book you want on that mythical desert island where you can only bring one book! Try it--and then go out and get his other books! My college students find him delightfully readable. So will you.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
