I Also Recommend:
A return to the strong basics of watercolor!
This book shows a return to the methods of the Masters; the use of paint, paper, and brushes, without the usual "Splash and Flash" methods that seem to be so currenty in vogue. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
The text is well-written and very informative, giving the purchaser a good grounding in watercolor basics, while being entertaining (at least to a watercolorist). The ring binding is an especially good touch as it allows the book to be propped up for study while doing the exercises.
Definitely one worth using, and you will be painting watercolors you'll be proud of on the weekends.
Having taught the "classical watercolor method" myself for over twenty years, this book is like a breath of fresh air.
The only thing I wish is that the authors might have spent a bit more time discussing materials, and recommending papers, as there are a lot of good watercolor papers out there, but there are also a lot of cheap, unsuitable ones whch can frustrate a young student. Perhaps some brand names might have been mentioned?
All in all, though, this is an excellent investment if you want to express yourself in watercolor.
