    Great Book for Beginners

I have always enjoyed taking snapshots and on occasion have gotten lucky and captured something special. I wanted to get serious about my photography, and I picked up this book. If you are like I was and white balance, aperture, ISO, and shutter speed are foreign concepts, this book is for you. The author goes into great detail about those subjects and really goes over some common features on DSLR and some point-and-shoot cameras, and explains how and when to use them.

He also discusses in great detail about finishing your images in your image editor with sample pictures from his website to correct some common problems in digital photos.

If you are inexperienced, I highly recommend this book. In just a few days you will have a basic understanding of photography. Then you can go on to some more detailed books about the type of photography you would like to get better at.

    Exellent in all regards

Long's 3rd edition of his highly regarded digital photography handbook is the best single photography text resource of which I'm aware. Its strengths are in technical thoroughness combined with a readable style. His discussions of photographic principles are models of clarity, and his treatment of topics unique to the digital domain never dodges the hard stuff but remains comprehensible.
