A wonderful overview and more
After visiting Colonial Williamsburg, historic Philadelphia, historic Boston, and other American historic sites, I finally realized the true path to my love of American History was the revolutionary war. However, I'm not an avid reader and books that have a tendency to go on and on and bore the reader have never been an appeal to me. But when I read 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to the American Revolution', I found a confidence and warm understanding into what I've been missing all these years of being out of High School history class. Someone who wants to know how our country was discovered, developed and started, I highly recommend this book. Then go on to the more detailed and less interesting titles.

A Nice Place to Start
While certainly not of the caliber of longer, more in-depth books on the War of Independence, this book does what it is designed to do: familiarize the reader with the basic events of the American Revolution. It is very easy to read, in keeping with other books in this series. It provides entertaining sideline stories and trivia as well. Most authors are also guilty of great bias when it comes to history, but the authors do a decent job remaining objective in what few pages they have to cover their subject-matter.
