    Zen Cooking at home!

Mr. Brown does it again with great recipes and great sense of humor! His essay on "An Egg Conspires" was worth the price of the book alone! I could envision this Zen Buddhist trying to gently coax a stuck egg out of the tray in the refrigerator only to have it break and run all over the contents of the shelf below, then to visualize him trying to open a piece of plastic wrapped cheese...anger is transformed into a lesson of living in peace and harmony, after all, food just doesn't sit well on an upset stomach! Who would imagine that stories and poetry could come alive in a recipe book?

All of the recipes are Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian, which is wonderful for those that are trying to find a way of leaving meat out of their diet, but still crave the flavor that eggs and cheese can give to a meal and provide the extra protein needed. The vegetable combinations are also a welcomed change for those who still want "meat, potatoes and something else". The fruit desserts are refreshing too! I can't wait until I can get some fresh mission figs for "Gingered Figs" or "Fig Bread"!

I hope that Mr. Brown continues to bring us more wonderful recipes in the future as his insight to the subtleties and delicate nature of flavor blending are superb!

Oh, yes! Buy it! Use it! Feel good!

One of my favorites. If you're a vegetarian, or, like me, just eat veg occasionally, this is the book to own. Vegetable pancakes are the best food ever.
