    amusing historical romance

In 1829 the Alton sisters return to London for their delayed debut season after spending several years abroad with their father Sir Geoffrey, an ambassador. The siblings see the upcoming galas differently though they agree that their new stepmother Romilla is a pompous flit. Beautiful Evangeline looks forward to the balls while way too tall and intelligent Gail fears she will be ridiculed. Needing time by herself, Gail sneaks out for an early morning ride. However instead of serenity, Viscount Fontaine accidentally knocks her into the lake when he fails to reign in his horse. To her shock and outrage, Maximilian blames Gail for her soaking. Later she catches this arrogant rogue kissing and COMPROMISING Evangeline, whom he apparently feels will meet his father¿s criteria of a wife. If he doesn¿t marry someone his father approves of he will be or disinherited in three months. However, Max has one problem the amusingly brilliant future sister-in-law is all he can think of making love to even when he steals a kiss with her sister. ---- COMPROMISED is an amusing historical romance with Romilla stealing the show from the onset as she explains to her dolt of a stepdaughter that in London people spy on their neighbors. The humorous story line is fast-paced from the early morning teas to the gossiping Ton to the final scandal of the month. Readers will appreciate this lighthearted late regency romp. ---- Harriet Klausner

    Loved it!

I just adored this one. I read way too many romance novels, and this one was fresh. Kate Noble's writing style is gorgeous and funny, and it brought historical romance back to life for me.

COULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD BOOK BUT ULTIMATELY BORING

The book had a strong premise so I don't understand how it was so boring. There was no passion and the interaction between the hero and heroine was bland. You don't read romance books solely for the frienship aspect between lovers. Overall it really was disappointing

    Refreshing and fun

Slightly different than the typical romanace novel. Read it all on a gloomy day. Just fun. Kate Noble writing is tight and smart. Can't wait to read her next one, Revealed, which has gotten great reviews.

    One word: Funny!!

It's so funny how two people can hate each other so much because of how alike they are. This is the case in this book. The main characters struggle with their love/hate relationship while the hero woos the heroines sister! Then everything works out and everyone and their sister and friends find love too. A GREAT book all around. Funny, emotion evoking, and a total page turner... I stayed up all night (and I mean until like 7am) reading this book straight through.

    Delightful!

This book was great! I love it when soon to be lovers start out loathing each other which turns into friendship and blossoms into love. The MC's Gail and Max start out on an early morning ride (separately, of course) where they happen to run into each other and fall into a pond (intense dislike is born). Later in the week Max attends Gail and her sister's coming out party where he compromises the sister-enter loathing- Max and sister must be chaperoned by a family member at all times and Gail draws the short stick. On one particular outing they call a truce-enter friendship- They are known to seek each other out at parties eventually do the deed realize they love each other and face a small obstacle. His upcoming nuptials to her sister. But, alas all hope is not lost. During this book the sister has been falling in love with Max's best friend Will. It all comes to light and the sisters elope with their men. They all live happily ever after. The End.
