There are many books on foreign policy, but this is a well writt

There are many books on foreign policy, but this is a well written analysis of the emerging Obama doctrine and how the President has handled and reacted to the various foreign policy issues that confront the nation. The chapters about Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, are remarkable. It is neither kind to Obama or wildly and irrationally unkind. Rather it is a clear, sober analysis, written with the intent to educate and inform, not take a partisan stance. One thing is clear, some of Obama's foreign policies may be troubling to some, but when reading serious books like this, about serious problems, one realizes the complexity of the problems. Sanger, at times takes you into to the meetings and into the minds of the players involved in shaping policy. This is fascinating. Although he concludes, it seems Obama has done a pretty good job, giving the president a grade is not his intent. Instead, the reader, can make up his/her own mind.

There are many books on the market that are not serious, in terms of their analysis, this one is. But it is not dense or tedious. It is in the end an excellent read and you will come away much better informed for having read it.

Book fills in the voids in the news.

The book reads like a novel. It kept me on the edge of my seat and up most of the nights. I tried to read it after I finished my required reading so that it wouldn't interfere with my getting to what I had to do or I wouldn't even start my work, it was that good. I'm a news junkie with an MA in National Security Studies, and I am probably more cognizant of current events than most, yet there were revelations to me in this book that opened my eyes. I recommend it to anyone who reads more than two newspapers daily.
