must read for all political philosophers
Both Mills and Pateman are great writers. They bring up relevant examples to back up their critique of contract theory. Anyone who is in critical theory will love this book because the authors setup groundwork for other philosophers of color/gender to be able to critique mainstream political and social philosophy. The book does not provide an overriding theory like political philosophers generally do, but rather is an honest look at how traditional philosophy has failed minorities and left them out of theory construction. I definitely recommend this book to all political philosophers, but don't expect it to answer your questions of normative theory construction. Was this review helpful?
