There are few books I have read that I would describe as 'special', but Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan is one of them. Twelve year old genius Willow Chance insists that her entire life be precisely ordered. She obsessively researches subjects until she masters them, including a current topic on how to form teenage friendships as she faces the beginning of middle school in a few days. Willow's matter of fact world view made me laugh out loud, yet tragedy does strike Willow's "everything in its place" world. I fell in love with the touching group of misfits who come together to form a surrogate family for this very special girl. There's that word again. "Special" is the only way to describe Counting by 7s. Willow Chance will stay with you long after the final page. (10 yrs and up)

Well written and storyline is something many kids and their parents will want to read

Without spoiling the story it is about how families sometimes become a family by circumstance and finally, choice. It does a beautiful job of telling the story through the voice of a girl very different from many I have read

My heart slowly melted into this story although I'm not sure at which chapter! Now that it's over, I can't stop reminiscing and smiling. The main character, Willow Chance, had me laughing out loud with her brave, strong, witty, genius, good-luck charm. I appreciated the character development with Dell, Willow’s case worker; subtle balanced with humanity.
The relationships, each enthralling and unique, bonded throughout the story to a degree unknown until you find yourself, eyes welling up and your heart cheering for everyone just how enjoyable and well written this story is! It's a well-blended, captivating story that has it all.
