Excellent, readable resource for any creative person!
Freeman-Zachery's newest book is a valuable addition to any artist/crafter/creative person's bookshelf. If you are struggling to find the "time and space" to create, Ricë helps you determine the why and how by helping you figure out how your mind works and developing a method to fit your style. She uses real examples from working artists and includes tons of tips, tricks, and personal stories. One artist's technique of drawing her daily to-do list is easily incorporated into anyone's routine. The "Try This" insets, on sky blue, are especially helpful. Was this review helpful? This is not like a traditional organizational or motivational book. The 14 artists she has interviewed provide perspectives of their different methods and working styles. Despite the multitude of voices and quotes, the humor and warmth Rice's personality still come through.
Part 2 on Creative space is not only about the physical environment, but more about mental attitude toward making art. I love the idea of journaling and the importance of play to create mental space necessary for creativity.
Creative Time and Space is so full of info, in each artist's voice, that you can reread many times to find new inspiration. And you may need to. although there is an index it seems rather incomplete. On my second reading, I found myself marking (with pen) in a book, something I haven't done since college.
