    Highly recommended

A great read - and I liked the characters, which is a must for me. An excellent "cozy" mystery.

    Predictable again..

I read this out of order I first read Crewel Yule, which I loved, but also felt the ending was very predictable. I read Crewel World, and again I was shocked with the predictability of it. The first half of the book was incredibly boring. I had figured out the murderer maybe by page 55. I give up on Monica Ferris. The whole needle point thing is really cute, but the plots just can't hold my attention.

Those familiar w/ X-Stitch and Excelsior, MN will love this!

I agree with the readers who have enjoyed this book that this is, indeed, a good first outing for Monica Ferris! In addition, I own the first 4 in the series and have enjoyed them. I hope to have time to visit the needlework shop in Excelsior that has helped her with her books on one of my future visits to Minnesota.

    Boring

I read the first 50-odd pages of this book and just couldn't force myself to go on. It's boring. The characters are dull (even the one intended to be zany), and nothing much is going on. I bought the book on the strength of reviews from other readers on this website. Apparently somebody liked it, so if you're interested, I'd advise you to go to a bookstore, sit down with a copy and read the first chapter or so to see if its low-energy style appeals to you.

    Marvelous mystery novel

I thought this was a truly wonderful story, especially for the beginning of a series. It has a cast of interesting characters that I look forward to meeting again. I also like that it is a mystery, rather than a thriller. The perpetrator isn't a psychotic serial killer, we're not wading in blood, and best of all, the amateur sleuth doesn't take such stupid risks that one feels it serves her right if she gets killed. The emphasis is on the intellectual puzzle, not gory scenes or overwrought action.
