    Criminally fun!

Author Shawn Bowman describes her book Criminal Crafts as “lighthearted homages to my favorite British country estate murder-mystery novels and … gangster movies”. She has gathered lots of cliche objects from those mediums to put together a book filled with a range of crime based crafts. Most of these ideas are downright useful, like the Rear Window Shades that let you make sure your kids are doing their chores. The Dia de los Muertos bath fizzies are based on the beautiful sugar skulls that are a popular decoration for Day of the Dead celebrations. I’d love to throw some of those in the bath! There’s even some crime cuties like the Voodoo Doll pincushion — seems like the ideal way to use a voodoo doll to me! Or the Crime Scene Gingerbread Men, who have x’s for eyes and a black outline around them on the paper plate. I liked the suggestion of making a decoy novel from an encyclopedia or other large book to hide valuables in, that could definitely come in handy. Criminal Crafts is a little unconventional for a crafting book, but full of fun (and funny) ideas!
