Loved it. After reading this true life adventure that I'd much enjoy myself, I continued the series to follow their adventure around the world. I couldn't put down any of them.

    A Simple Account

I've heard about this book for years and I was really excited to read it. I thought I'd get some real insight into the cruising life. Sadly, the book is seriously outdated (and I should have know it would be). But also, the pace is just way too monotonous. It's one anecdote about someone coming to dinner and having a wonderful time after another. This may just be sour grapes, but this incredibly idealized adventure where all the locals and fellow mariners endlessly provide lobster dinners and whatever else the Pardy's need does not make for compelling reading. I had thought I'd LEARN something about cruising, but instead I got bored and put it down without finishing. If story after story about how great the Pardeys had it 40 years ago is what you want, this is for you. If you want to know what cruising is like these days (where, how, tips, etc.) then you should look elsewhere.

The 25th anniversarry edition is even better

This book inspired my folks to step out for a year and take all of the family sailing. what a great time it was. Recently I was looking for a copy of the book to read to my kids - learned there was a new hard back edition - got one direct from the publisher. What a treat. Loads of color photos - a really inspiring introduction - shows you can have dreams and live them even if you don't have a lot of money. This is a book my family will cherish - fine read, better pictures and great appendix on how to get out crossing oceans and exploring for those of us who didn't make it in the dot com world.

    A fine book, I'm sure

O.K., I've never actually read this book, but from reading the description and seeing the snappy cover photo, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book, because it's probably very good. Yes, I definitely think it'd be a joy, cover to cover. Sometime I must definately get around to reading it.
