    So Cute

Ok, people, this is not a sequal to Bambi, but rather a "in the middle" movie. It picks up right after Bambi's mother dies, and is the story of how Bambi deals with that loss and his father learns how to take care of Bambi. It is a very cute movie. All through, I would find myself going "AW!" It really is a good movie. Kids will like it a lot! Trust me! :-)

    For Once: A Good Sequel

A very good children's movie. It is about Bambi's childhood with some sad and scary parts but my toddler loved the movie. It picks up from when his mother dies and is a good story about a single father and his child.

    Breathtaking! Better than the origional!

When my mother bought this DVD for my little sisters, I was a little skeptical. "C'mon Mom! You BOUGHT this? What if it's not any good?" Many times when Disney makes a "2" of an old classic, it's, to put it bluntly, pathetic (Cinderella II and Jungle Book II for example.) Of course kids don't care, but I'm disappointed. No need to fear on this one! As soon as it started, I was captivated along with my little sisters! The scenery, the music, the voices, the story, everything about it was superb! Charming, touching, funny, and beautiful, this movie is EXCELLENT. It does the original justice, and I think I even like it better! Bravo!

"Bambi II" - "entertaining" but disappointing

Ever since I was a child, the original Disney production of “Bambi” has always held a place in my heart as the greatest movie of all time. That said, it would be an understatement to say that I was “thrilled” when I learned of the production of “Bambi II”. At that time, however, the promotion title of the feature was “Bambi: and the Great Prince of the Forest”. While I sympathize with the fact that that title would have been a challenge to fit onto a DVD cover, I believe that it was a careless decision on Disney’s part to re-title the feature “Bambi II”. When you think of a “II” you think “sequel”, but “Bambi II” is clearly anything but. If you reference back to Disney’s “The Lion King”, you’ll notice how Disney proceeded it with two features, titled: “The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride” (the sequel to the original, detailing the adventures of Simba’s daughter, Kiara) and “The Lion King 1 ½” (an almost “behind the scenes” look at the original story through the eyes of Timon). In this context, it would be best to say that “Bambi II” should really be called “Bambi 1 ½”! Felix Salten, the author of the novel “Bambi”, also wrote a sequel to his classic, titled: “Bambi’s Children”. This second novel picks up where the original (novel and movie) left off, portraying what goes on after the birth of Bambi and Faline’s two fawns. Seeing as Salten’s sequel was written and published around the same time the original “Bambi” feature film was in production, it seems a careless and disappointing oversight by Disney to have produced “Bambi II” the way they did. I’ll admit, “Bambi II” is beautifully rendered, and the animators did a praise-worthy job of keeping the character designs as true to the original as possible. However, while the film is remarkable in its technological “artistry”, its context and plot are rather vague. Still, it was interesting to watch this movie and be able to pick out the scenes of foreshadowing (such as the scene where Ronno, Bambi’s rival, is bullying Faline away from Bambi in exactly the same way he does as an adult in the original) Another example of a foreshadowing scene is the spar Bambi and Ronno have while Bambi is following his new care-taker, Mena, to his new home. The Disney animators paid special attention to detail, as every frame of this scene was created exactly as it looks when this same fight occurs between the two in the original. All in all, “Bambi II” was a comical addition to the original splendor of the first feature film. I would’ve enjoyed learning more about how The Great Prince came to chose Bambi’s mother as his mate, or seen more of Bambi’s development from fawn to stag. However, I still hold a glimmer of hope that someday the Disney will realize their folly with this movie and create a NEW Bambi feature that follows the traditional guidelines of a sequel - taking time to consult Felix Salten’s novel, “Bambi’s Children”, as their reference. Until then, I will continue to cherish the original “Bambi” film on the pedestal which I have placed it while seeking therapy for the insatiable urge I have to purge the world of “Bambi II”! (Thankfully, it's only available for 67 more days!)
