Shawty Get a Hold of Yerself!!!!!

When my father died in 1980 I thought all was lost. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, could barely get out of bed in the morning. One day, I think it was in October 1982, I turned on the television and a show called "Battlestar 1980" was coming on. I'd heard of the old series but never felt a need to watch it. Well I guess this was a re-run of the final episode of the old series, only shot years after the show ended it's regular rotation. In my stained, dirty bathrobe I sat and watched this thing. It wasn't very good to be honest. The special effects where very underwhelming and I'm pretty sure most of the cast had only done cereal commercials before this. I must've passed out mid-way through the episode because I don't remember actually seeing how it ended. What I do remember is waking up in the hospital almost thirty years later! Apparently I'd slipped into some sort of alcohol / cocaine induced coma while I was watching the show and had been in a vegetative state for the remainder of the 80's, 90's, and damn near the aughts! I won't go into detail about how wierd it was to wake up to a world where not one, but TWO Bushes had somehow made it into the White House and Michael Jackson had become such an odd character but I'm sure you can imagine it wasn't easy. After being released from the hospital I went back to the house my father had left me to try and piece it all together. It was almost exactly as I had left it, albeit covered in about six inches of dust and spiders, nearly three decades earlier. Oh god the spiders. I didn't bother to clean up much, I just wanted to get back to what I was doing before the "incident". I sort of instinctively sat on the old red, now grey, sofa and reached for the remote control to turn on the television. Before I could realize the absurdity of what I was doing the television sort of hummed for a second and then glowed as vibrantly as it had back when Bowie was king and breakdancing made sense! Apparently my father had left some sort of trust open to be drawn from for the utlities to be paid on a monthly basis. My original cable company, NuVision, had since been purchased by Comcast. As long as the bills stayed current they kept a constant lifeline of edutainment flowing. I flipped through the thousand or so channels now available to me in search of anything familiar. Most of what I saw was what looked like home movies of very tan young people hurting each other's feelings. It made me frustrated and a little scared to be honest. I then found salvation. Salvation in the form of the last thing I remember before that fateful day 29 years ago. It was Battlestar! It was an updated Battlestar with stunning special effects and the chinese dude from Blade Runner in the lead role! Man he aged a lot better than I did, although I don't think he's actually Chinese anymore. Have they figured out how to change that for people? I'll have to look into it. Anyways, I've been watching the show every Friday since. I'm so excited to get to see how the series ends in this Friday's two hour long finale. As you may remember from earlier in my review I slipped into a very long coma before getting to see how things turned out for the crew of the Galactica. Yep, this Friday I'm going to sit back down on that old comfy couch in that same old, stained, bathrobe and watch with great delight. I'll also be drinking / doping myself back into a coma again. Maybe when I wake up thirty years from now they'll have fix

Great First half of the season

I have been a fan of the series since the 1970/80's edition. I was skeptical at first about the Re-imagined series, but thus far have not been disappointed. Season 4, the last of the series, is spectacular. All of the actors are on their top notch performances, the story line is finally getting somewhere: earth! The deleted scenes are great too. A must buy!

BSG 4.0 Eye Opening and Required Viewing

I had to buy the 2nd season because my DVR died with that full season unwatched. I decided to buy Season 1 as well which put me on the road to a) make sure I keep up with my DVR and watch the episodes as soon as I could; b) re-watching the episodes revealed tid-bits of info I'd missed; c) uncovered sub-plots and insights previously hidden; d) Seasons 2.0, 2.5, 3 and Razor, along with 4.0 were ALL worth it!

BSG 4.0 really paved the way for a more enjoyable viewing of the final season.

    You will enjoy it.

Solid science fiction supported by interesting characters and uniformly good acting

Dark, violent, and intense, Battlestar Galactica ("BSG") continues to hook you even as it starts to wrap things up in this fourth season. There are plenty of plot twists and bits that you will try to guess: who is the Last of the Five? Starbuck? The Admiral? Lee? Will the humans and the cylons figure out a way to coexist or perhaps even thrive, or will they simply flame out in a spasm of violence? Is this "future history" indeed merely part of a never-ending cycle as some of the story's mystics insist?

Start at the beginning and watch the episodes in order. Avoid spoilers, and savor the story.

    I Also Recommend:

Best TV series of all time, IMHO

Fans of the original BSG are mixed about the new series, but not me. That was light, campy fun. This is heavy, intense human drama of the highest order, provided by an incredible ensemble of actors. Amazing characters, heroic yet significantly flawed, challenged by situations that test them to their limits. The twists of the story arc are sometimes shocking, but always believable. I got hooked mid-season 3, and have purchased everything available on DVD. Be sure to check out the "deleted scenes". Some useful insights are found there.

You don't need to buy the miniseries or "Razor" separately if you buy the seasons. The miniseries is in the Season 1 DVD set, and "Razor" is in Season 4.0. Also, note that season 2 is split into "Season 2.0" and "Season 2.5" -- you'll need them both.
