FINALLY a great TV series about Mormonism!

With BIG LOVE someone has finally produced a great TV series about Mormonism! BIG LOVE is set in modern day Utah, and it explores the life and cultures of the VAST variety of Mormons who live there.
Contrary to what most people assume, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints(often called the LDS Church and headquartered in Salt Lake City)no more represents or speaks for ALL Mormons anymore than the Catholic Church (headquarterd in Rome) speaks for ALL Christians.
The plot line of BIG LOVE explores Mormons--ranging from the individualistic polygamous family that is the heart of the series, to cult-like polygamous seperatist groups (like the infamous FLDS Church in Arizona and Texas), to monogamist LDS Mormons (members of the LDS Church) to Anti-Mormons.

    interesting view of plural marriage

In the wake of the current YFZ community scandal, as well as the ongoing trials of their "prophet," Warren Jeffs, this makes interesting viewing. One might condone 'plural marriage' "the euphemism for polygamy" if it involves consenting adults, but communities like YFZ or the FLDS compounds in Colorado City, AZ. let 70 year old men marry 13 year old children. The pedophelia doesn't end with just the girls. Big Love shows this and more. With fantastic performances by the entire cast. But special shout-outs go to Chloe Sevigny, Mary Kay Place and most especially Grace Zabriskie.
