One of the best shows on TV!

As a Mormon (now a Reform Mormon, after having been a member of the LDS Church for 30 years) I LOVE this series. I have spent a great portion of my life living in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming--states where Mormons are the largest religious grouping, and this show captures the FULL SPECTRUM of Mormonism. Most people mistakenly think that the LDS Church in Salt Lake City is THE one and only Mormon Church--which it isn't. (The oldest Mormon denomination is smaller and headquartered in the Midwest.) Anyone who has ever lived in Utah knows that the culture there--for everyone (Mormon or not) BECAUSE Mormons make up over 80% of the population.
BIG LOVE explores not only polygamy, but the diversity within Utah itself.

But most importantly--and interestingly--it explores the full range of human emotion within a polygamous family. The acting is top notch...as is the writing but the Academy Award winning writer of the recent film "Milk."

BIG LOVE will make you laugh, maybe even cringe a little, but also THINK.

    Big Love Drama

I was surprised when I saw the show and saw this polygamist family treated with dignity and respect. It is an amazing show that lets a person see the ups and downs of this lifestyle, and there was a lot to be learned about the mormon faith in general. It's also very funny and a show you can sit and enjoy with friends.

    Big Love, Big Problems

This show goes beyond the idea of polygamy. It doesn't present it in the best of lights, in fact it shows the downside as well. When following a day in the life of Bill (the main character played by Bill Paxton) you realize how many obligations he has to his family, work, society... it's not so easy. When I first started watching the show, I thought it was going to be one big sex fest. It's not like that at all. It gets into the aspects of their lifestyle/religious choices and how it affects them ALL: Him, his wives, the children, work, social lives and society. This man owns three houses, three building supply stores. He owes money to the "Prophet" who won't let him free (who happens to be his second wife's father! Imagine the friction there!) His first wife he nearly lost to cancer, His second wife has a spending problem... his third wife is the outcast among the other two. Then he's got this studly son who's confused about sex, a daughter that has no friends, and all the little rugrats in between. You wonder how he keeps it together. It's a great show about the human condition/ human error and moral choices.
