Chicago Newspaper Reporter Investigates Murder
Jimmy Stewart plays McNeal, a Chicago newspaper reporter assigned to a story about a policeman's murder 10 years earlier, during Prohibition. Two men were convicted and sentenced to 99 years. One prisoner's mother, believing her son ''innocent,'' has raised five thousand dollars in the hope of reopening the murder investigation. Reporter McNeal digs into the facts looking for the truth. The film dramatically depicts his dealings with the police, the courts, and the Illinois Parole Board. Stewart gives a fine performance, helped by a good supporting cast and a taut story. Good film, well worth seeing.
