    FINALLY- a TRUE western!

I had never seen Deadwood on HBO until I met one of the actors that plays on the series. He and I were portraying 'Mormon pioneers' at a function and mentioned that he had a part in the show and asked if I had seen it. I'd never heard of it, but told him that my kids and I would watch it. He QUICKLY assured me that Deadwood wasn't a show for kids. Boy was he right! But it is fantastic! I might be Goody Miss Two Shoes, but I loved it and watched it every week. Al Swearingen never looked so good! Good story lines and what I assume to be a bit more truth of how the old West actually was. A bit tarter than what John wayne portrayed. I loved it so much that I bought the whole set.

    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

    Shakespeare in the mud

Shakespeare in the mud is without doubt the most fitting description of this series. The dialogue is wonderfully written and provides a clear "feel" for each of the characters (especially the use of swear words). A lot of historical research clearly went into the show as it stays true (for the most part) to what is known of the town at that time. Each of the actors do a wonderful job, but Ian McShanes portayal of Al Swearengen is brilliant to say the least. I am not a fan of westerns, or dramas for the most part yet Deadwood pulled me in so hard that as soon as I watched one episode I could not wait to watch the next. Bottom line, A+.

what the west was really like

If you like gritty westerns this is for you. roughly based on a real town and real people,It opened my eyes to what the real west was most likely like. Once I started watching (and getting over the four letter words) I couldn't wait to see more. I was sorry the series ended.
