    Disappointment

Being a fan of the death note series this one left me severely disappointed. The performances were decent for a live action and the way they designed the shimigamis was enjoyable. However, it was the plot of the movie that caused me great pain. They cut off the last and best part of the story and filtered bits and pieces into the main battle of L and Light for a script that didn't make much sense. As I enjoy soundtracks, this one was a letdown as they chose pop/rock music that didn't make much sense for the movie. Overall this movie was unforgettably bad and I still want my two hours back.

    great

i really enjoyed this second installment of the death note movies. although it doesn't go with the manga/anime exactly, they still keep it pretty true to the real story line. i would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the anime/manga.

The Last Name in live action Manga Movies...

I was very pleased with the direction they went with this, given the changes that needed to be made in order to trim it down from the 12 volumes worth of books. Death Note makes for a wonderfully imaginative, intellectual thriller. A fantastic game of Cat and Mouse between geniuses, where there is not second place, only death.
The lead actors did a phenomenal job bringing to life the eccentricities of the main characters and even though the Shinigami, Ryuk was very blatantly CGI, due to the content of the movie and it's source material, it worked very well.
I highly recommend at least renting this two part movie, if not purchasing outright.
