    This is a fine movie.

I really like this movie. It raises all sorts of questions about who we are and what God's plan is for us. I think it helps if one has received a Catholic education to understand all of it, several people I know missed half of the symbolism and were puzzled by some of the dialog. Dogma makes you think about spiritual matters and addresses some of the same moral questions we face everyday. Kevin Smith isn't thumbing his nose at religion, this is a film by someone who has a deep faith. And this Catholic found the ''Catholicism Wow!'' very funny.

    Get into Dogma

For some reason this was poorly reviewed - and received - when it opened at cinemas in late 1998. (Very late, in fact; almost into the New Year). This is a bizarre film, yes, but it is also a cracking piece of religious satire with an incredible cast. Alan Rickman in particular stands out as a real master of his craft (as always). Even Alanis Morissette turns up as God - so much for the 'Jesus Complex.' This probably isn't suited to Catholics, due to the incredibly funny (to everbody else) 'Catholicism Wow!' campaign, but if you are religious and have a sense of humour, maybe you'll surprise yourself at just how much you really enjoy it.

    Dogma requires a ''double take''

If you like religious satire or religious references with a heapin' helpin' of comedy thrown in, you will have to do a double take with Dogma. Watching it once will definately not be enough. Having endured four years of Catholic High School (while being raised a Lutheran ) was part of the reason I enjoyed the film so much. DO NOT take this film literally or you will be very disappointed in the comedy. Faith guides us, not the particular Religion we cling to. Jay and Silent Bob are at the top of the ''Best Actors that will probably never get their due'' list. The first time I watched the movie, I laughed so much I missed half of it. I even paid a late charge at the rental store to watch it for a third time. I will be buying this movie within the week so I can watch it several more times without a late charge. With a subject like religion, it is tough to pull off a comedy without offending the masses. THEY DID IT!!! Please pay close attention to the prologue of the movie. It really sets the intended tone of the mo
