I have seen both films t least four times.  After the third time I actually thought I was understanding French.  These are among my absolute favorite films.  Highly recommend.  Great story welltolf.

I bought this movie not knowing what to expect. Even though it looks like two movies, they are really just two long parts. I don't want to give it away, but the first half is depressing and the second part only has a few happy moments.

First of all, I do not speak French, but there are English subtitles and I pretty much had to read the entire script to understand what was going on. This is movie is a tragedy with a somewhat happy ending, but you have to watch both parts to get to the happy ending. There is about the same amount of nudity in this film (Manon of the Spring) as there was in the '97 Titanic movie, but there is no sex scene of any kind, which was refreshing. There is a lot of talk between two men on choosing the "right kind of woman" and they discuss a few things that might not be appropriate for young children and there is a descriptive discussion on illegitimacy. The movie is long, but good. The movie stays with you and it is hard not tell someone else about the injustice that goes on. It is worth the buy, but again, strongly not recommended for anyone 12 and under-AT LEAST.

    Excellent and consistent...

The film, in its two parts, holds one's interest throughout. Intriguing story, wonderfully presented.
