Must watch, must have.
I have the original recording, the symphonic recording and the 10th anniversary. This one holds its own. Jean Valjean is good, but not as good as Colm Wilkinson. Javert, Epoinine and Fantine are wonderful. I caught the second act on PBS last week and ordered the dvd. I didn't realize it was Nick Jonas as Marius till it arrived. Yes he is milktoast, and so is the actress who plays Cosette. But that suits the characters. He does rush the lyrics at times. I will say, however, not knowing who he was, I thought his version of "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" was amazing. It felt real.
The real bonus on this DVD is the encore with the original cast.

This production of Les Miserables is quite good. The set and lighting are both phenomenal, and the majority of the cast is very strong. Personal favorites of mine include Alfie Boe ("Jean Valjean"), Ramin Karimloo ("Enjolras"), and Norm Lewis ("Javert"), whose rendition of "Stars" is the best I've ever heard. Was this review helpful? Yes, Nick Jonas is quite weak, especially when pitted against his fellow ABC rebellion students, but he does fairly well and his performance of "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" was much, much better than I expected. While the 25th Anniversary may not have been as strong as the 10th Anniversary, it was well done and I highly recommend it.
